Truck owners need to file their Heavy Vehicle Use Tax Form 2290 annually by the due date of August 31st for every taxable vehicle, which uses public highways for transportation during the tax period. The tax period for heavyweight taxable vehicles starts from July 1st 2017 and ends on June 30th 2018. 2290 tax return and Heavy vehicle Use Tax must be file before the deadline to avoid penalties and interest.  The due date of Form 2290 for each month is the last day of the next month. File IRS Form 2290 by the provided due dates without considering the due of state registration for the vehicle. If any of the mentioned HVUT due date fall on Saturday, Sunday or national holiday you can file the form by the next business day. Filing Form 2290 by the due date is appreciated. When you foresee that you cannot make the truck tax filing on time you can file for an extension, else you will attract IRS penalties for late payment and filings.
