Due to IRS facility maintenance taking place over the Labor Day weekend (from 1 p.m. on Aug. 31 to noon on Sept. 4), the IRS asks taxpayers to e-file Form 2290 before 1 p.m. Eastern time on Friday, Aug. 31. For those who miss the 1 p.m. cutoff, formal guidance announcing an extension to e-file Form 2290 by Sept. 7 will be issued soon.

File your Form 2290 and get your schedule-1 for Tax Year 2011-2012. If you have used your truck in the month of January you must file your tax return by end of February 2012 to avoid penalty. IRS encourages all the truck operators to file their return electronically to get stamped Schedule-1 quickly. All the local transport departments accept the stamped schedule-1 e-file receipt.

The Form 2290 is available now. If your vehicle was first used in July, August, September or October 2011, you are required to file Form 2290 by November 30, 2011. You will not be liable for any late filing penalty or interest if you meet this due date. Beginning November 1, 2011, we will provide a stamped (receipted) Schedule 1 to those who file and pay their tax.
IRS accepts Form 2290 HVUT Tax Return for 2011-2012 from November 1, 2011.  If you have used your truck between July  and October you must file your return by November 30, 2011 to avoid penalty.
Congress has passed and the President has signed an extension of the Heavy Highway Vehicle Use tax through September 30, 2012. By November 30th, 2011, taxpayers will be required to file Form 2290 for the full year on vehicles first used in July, August or September 2011. Form 2290 will be available after September 30, 2011. In the meantime, you can still pay your 2010 excise tax, get your 2011 tags and register your new or used vehicle.

IRS requires Electronic filing for each return reporting 25 or more vehicles that the taxpayer files during the tax period. However, all taxpayers are encouraged to file electronically.

Consent to disclosure of tax information:

The consent on page 2 of Schedule 1 (Form 2290) was updated so the IRS can use the American Association of Motor Vehicle Administrators (AAMVA), a third-party non-profit organization, as an intermediary to transmit information from Schedule 1 to the state Department of Motor Vehicles.
